I hadn't known that female primates had orgasm never mind with each other. This cannot be unique to this species. I know there was been a reluctance to show murder between same species for not apparent better reason than the gang mentality. Maybe these primate could give lesson on mutual female organism to uptight human females. There is the odd prig about here that might start with another female. "The monkey made me do it" Ha ha

It's VERY common among the Bonobo Chimps to have same sex relations. Both males and females and sometimes there are more that 2 participants. I do not know about the primates though, I'm sure there are a load of species that are 'homosexual' in some manner.
Violence among non-human primates is an interesting thing. Infanticide by new males that are not the 'fathers' kill the babies to put the females back into estrus. The is cannibalism as well. And sometimes a primate just 'snaps'. Jane Goodall's work in Gombi(?) shows just how violent chimps can be.
Sorry, lol I'm an anthropology major. I could talk forever about primates

Th arrogance of humanity is that it believes it is unique and beyond the animal kingdom.
How wrong we are.

I had a cat [Montego] who was homosexual. He hung out with the girl cats and wasn't interested in what his brothers were doing. He was prissy and would groom for hours. He chose virginity, however, rather than face the stigma of being gay in the cat community. The cat community can be rather catty when it comes to social expectations and so forth. I am proud I raised him to be who he needed to be.

Yes, as with lions. As I have an anthropology major, could I ask you about this. If males were properly following their animal instincts, then it should not be large breasted females that should interest them, other than ascetic reasons maybe. As with our lion friend, spreading his seed is his first priority. A full breasted female is more likely to be feeding an offspring and not interested, while the flatter would be freer and willing. Does this make any sense?

As you say Ashes to Ashes many animals have male to male and female to female sex, they also are quite particular to gang rape, this includes the "friendly" Dolphin.
"The Lion implanting his seed",the male lion will be looking for a partner that can raise his offspring, hence a female with cubs, is a prime partner.
Righthand "The monkey made me do it", you lie!.

Who's Afraid of Gay, Incestuous Monkey Sex?
that is quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever read at Clipmarks.
Must be posted to wrong clip.

Ashes2Ashes,
is there the equivalent of "empty vessels make most noise" in the animal world? I suppose the screaming monkeys, maybe? Someone who has no contribution to make but must comment to feel involved. A dung splattering cow might be apt too.

this is from http://psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-20070622-000002.xml

Until very recently, it was a mystery to evolutionary
psychology why men prefer women with large breasts, since the size of a
woman's breasts has no relationship to her ability to lactate. But
Harvard anthropologist Frank Marlowe contends that larger, and hence
heavier, breasts sag more conspicuously with age than do smaller
breasts. Thus they make it easier for men to judge a woman's age (and
her reproductive value) by sight—suggesting why ...

No, not you. And it was bitchy and not my style.

I must apologize to Willheim, unreservedly. His comment to Digits' "I had a cat [Montego] who was homosexual" was totally misunderstood by me. Even if he had directed his comment towards me, it would still not excuse my reply. I even got digits and rightHand interchanged in my mind which shows how off base that I was.

Sorry Vampy2 for causing you to reexamine your more than welcome inputs.

Thats ok, I can be extremely blunt at times, then realise I made a mistake, or just got really mad. That is what makes us humans, or is it?

I like blunt, with soft edges.

I'm disarmed by the truth, always. I dispense with negativity by endeavoring to speak my mind, even when I sometimes put my foot in it.

My lovely daughter like her mother gives me some grief in the belief that the truth is somewhat like an onion with a number of layers and who likes peeling onions? Cannot get through with the idea that telling the truth is so much simpler. Maybe it's a sex thing, getting back on topic?

Soft edges refers more to tone than packaging, but has its place in words too.

Great info.

We know that humans have been polygynous throughout most of history because men are taller than women.
Among primate and nonprimate species, the degree of polygamy highly correlates with the degree to which males of a species are larger than females.
...from your site is certainly news to me and needs detailed reading before making sense. You must be looking forward to a good and fruitful life in the field that you have chosen.

In regards to polygamy, it is a theory that the dominate males with control over a large harem is dominate because they are stronger, larger, etc...they've 'earned' their status.
Now I am going off on a tangent... lol....
The 'use' of polygamy is to ensure that a male will 'spread his seed' to a large population and ensure that his genes will continue on as much as possible.
My Anthropology professor made this point; males are expendable. A population only needs a few males, as long as there are a 'large' number of females the genetic diversity will be enough to keep from any inbreeding. It is one of the many reasons why males did the hunting in hunting and gathering ...

Sometime when you have time...

Way back, my then church advocate that sex in marriage was only for the purpose of producing children! With the males redundancy, will marriage have any religious purpose. Ha ha.

Now seriously, if you have ideas on this. Slavery. The white master also had a business motive while enjoying producing offspring for work. Any paternal emotions were easy sidelined by profit. Now black ladies were being sold into slavery to the Arabs long before the white man reached the dark continent and made up the harems. The resultant offspring had a high status and some even inherited the master's wealth. Same males, same females, different offspring outcome?
