In US, we still have a number of jurisdictions that allow the death penalty. Personally, I oppose the death penalty, as it offers no protection and does not even serve well as a means to offering some sort of satisfaction to relatives and friends of the victim(s).

Prison that readies someone for return to society is fine if the sentence is less than life.

When given life imprisonment for homicide, I believe that the prisoner should have food, acceptable clothing, shelter, and healthcare. The only communication should be with an attorney, if the prisoner wishes to appeal the sentence.

I am OK with no other form of communication, learning materials, or entertainment. The food, clothing, shelter and healthcare is sufficient humane treatment. Is this punishment? Yes for killing another person, you should have all the rest of your time to think about what you did. The person killed will not have the opportunity to ever talk with anyone again and neither should the killer.
