Part of baseball...perhaps the most challenging part, is dealing with the fear of getting hit by a pitch. By wearing so much protective gear, today's hitters are able to play without one of the most important challenges of hitting a baseball. To think that it also serves to aide his swing, that's just totally wrong! I was raised on baseball; I recall how my Dad used to bitch about the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn - so we became Met fanatics. I can still remember most of the 1969 Mets, their uniform numbers & positions We went to at least 6 or 7 games a year, and I learned how to keep a scorecard. Now it's just business - there is no "team" just players bouncing from team to team. It's really hard to follow. They made such a fuss over spit balls & pine tar & shoe polish --but a "mechanical arm" barely gets a blink. Sad. maybe that is what ichiro is always doing before....the....pitch |
