As of July 1, 2008, the Federal Trade Commission imposed new guidelines for franchises. For starters, they changed the name of the Uniform Franchise Offering Circular, or UFOC, to the Franchise Disclosure Document, or FDD. They also imposed new requirements for the content of the FDDs. Documents that are not compliant can risk penalties, fees, and lawsuits.
