Every time I hear some pitiful fool attack same-sex unions as destroying the sacred institution of marriage, I am mindful that if you want to file for divorce today you'd probably have to stand in line. It seems pretty clear, then, that if these people were interested in saving the institution of marriage--and not just fueling prejudice against gays--they would forget about same-sex marriage and focus their efforts on reducing divorce. And if these kind of people were really serious about protecting families--instead of scoring cheap political points--they would drop their ugly constitutional amendment rallies against same sex-marriage and replace it with a constitutional amendment banning divorce.
