this is great.. =] LoL LOL To say categorically, "There is no God," is to make an absolute statement. For the statement to be true, I must know for certain that there is no God in the entire universe. No human being has all knowledge. Therefore, none of us is able to truthfully make this assertion. Sorry. That should read: To say categorically, "There is no God," is to make an absolute statement. For the statement to be true, I must know for certain that there is no God in the entire universe. No human being has all knowledge. Therefore, none of us is able to truthfully make this assertion.Fair enough, but doesn't this answer poses more problems for the Christian proselytizer than it solves? How do you know that the God(s) of Islam, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, Greek mythology, Norse mythology, etc. etc. don't exist? How do you know that pink invisible unicorns or the flying spaghetti monster don't exist? After all, such statements require absolute knowledge that no human can possibly have. To Jklugman: Ultimate reality is rational. For me to answer your question would be to disregard the fallacy of equivocation, the fallacy of abstraction, and a few others. I am not disregarding your question, I fully understand it. But would like to point out the illogical foundation of the question. However to answer your question in the abstract, I will say: I was not born a beleiver, but came to faith through a personal search. I've studied several. My decisions and beleifs are guided by a faith I fully to be fact based on my realtionship with my God and the changes that have come forth in my life. Proselytizers only wish to share that which they have gained. One in faith can understand th... A contemporary view of Judaism. On Hell. In our lives every day we never achieve total satisfaction - there is always more. If you always wanted to learn C++, just after you finished learning you would simply want more. The world in which we live is one where people want more and more, and then when we get it we still want more. Some Philosophers have described Hell as exactly that, a place where we are never satisfied; not a place where we are being burnt in eternal flames. According to Judaism there is no such thing as hell. Jewish people do not live to avoid hell, but view life as a series of tests. As soon as we pass one test we will only be greeted by another more challenging one. J... The "Chosen People"? The term the Chosen people is not about G-d specifically picking out the Jewish people. As the story goes, G-d went to all the nations and asked them to follow his 613 laws. The only people who took this task were the Jewish people. Effectively, they chose to follow the laws so Jewish people are not the “Chosen People” as such, but the people who made the choice to accept the responsibility of these laws to the best of our ability. Unfortunately we are not so good at following these laws though – we could definitely improve in that sense as a people. Some people say that the reason the Jewish people were dispersed from Israel over 2000 years ago was because we were fai... Oh, I have always considdered myself an Athiest Jew.... Infact, privately I used to view religion as a weakness and a lame attempt to explain things which we did not understand. I have always looked at each religious philosophy and made the decision myself about what was right and wrong. For example, one major sticking point for me is the concept of a "scape goat", where a third party can take responsibility for another persons bad choices or "sins" - the ultimate example of this is Jesus dying on the cross. As far as I am concerned, nobody can take my "sins" away from me - they are my own choices and I alone am responsible. Re: God; today I am not sure either way. What are your concepts of God and the world we live in? |
