With that growing user figure, del.icio.us does not look attractive to me anymore. Thousands of links are submitted within just a few minutes and most of times, you don't even have the chance to see all the links. Once, it's here and after ten minutes or so, it's "old stuff". This way, it's very hard for a link to be saved by some more people. As we see, most of the links are saved by just one people and disappear in the wells of del.icio.us. Because, posting just a "bookmark" does not require much mental effort, so many people submit hundreds of them in a day - only to be lost in the darkness. You see a web page you like, push a button, enter a few tags and submit it. All take just ten sec... I agree with you invictus, but I have realized that delicious is much quicker and handy if you use it to just gather bookmarks (like how they meant to be prior to social phenomenon). I use it mostly to gather my work related links which doesn't require any social commentary or attachment to the story. I have yet to come across a better service than Clipmarks in terms of social attachments to the story, news and interesting stuff on the web. Right, it's good as a personal bookmark deposit. You can safely post the links you come across while surfing to del.icio.us and then access them from any computer online. This is good. But that's all. I could never enjoy other people's bookmarks because they fly like a jet and disappear in a short time. Of course you can search the site using tags but I don't remember a time that I searched and found a useful bookmark using del.icio.us or Blinklist. StumbleUpon is really cool by the way. I think Clipmarks + StumbleUpon + ScrapBook (extension) is a great combination. I stumble, I love it. I have found so many interesting things here and thru stumbling. I like bookmarks but I don't go to del.icio.us to get them. Its too cold! In terms of del.icio.us I use the 'networks' option most - find someone who saves stuff you like and stalk them - I do this using rss feeds to my pageflakes start page rather than del.com itself though. Usually, a clipmark is a "communal thing", rather than being simple and personal. A user reads a story, selects its important parts, writes remarks and posts it. Then with the contributions of many users with pops and comments, it becomes a rich and effective "communal property".Totally agree Invictus. |
