There are also the species that exist near the location where a 'product' like minerals,oil,coal, marine life. etc, that are considered to be 'cost' Too much of what exists now will have disappeared before we find it, and when ecosystems are breaking we have the gall to either ask Why? or deny responsibility entirely. It's amazing those with the vast profits from the destruction can wallow in such entrenched stupidity, and come up with excuses that are so cheap. Smart as juggling land mines.
The environment wont hear excuses, it reacts according to the way it is treated. It can have a habit of using offense as a defense as well. Where did we get our instinct for self preservation? From the same place as every other species. Except for maybe Lemmings, who follow their leader over a cliff.
