merrie says: & The Little People Who Might Need a Home Seven-Hundred-and-Eighty-Nine BILLION DOLLARS, and there was no room for a housing credit? I’d like to know who fought to keep this credit in the final bill, and who fought to eliminate it. Names, please. UPDATE 2/11/09 @ 6:15 pm ET: To clarify, the $15,000 home-buying credit that was slashed had been included in the Senate bill, was to apply to ALL buyers with qualifying income for purchase of a new primary residence. The House bill included a $7,500 credit for first-time buyers only. I do not know the status of the House credit, but a credit for first-time buyers only will not be sufficient to stimulate some of the tougher markets because those buyers typically don’t qualify for most homes anyway. Home ownership is not approved by the central committee. It must be tolerated until the final takeover of the great people's collective, but until then we don't want to spread the problem to other people. Let them rent until we are able to give them all free housing along with free healthcare and free food and free electricity and free insulation and free water and free air. |
