Godfrey Daniel says: I've clipped a lot of James Brown since his passing. No love from the Clipmunity. Most of what I've clipped and much more gathered at WFMU My favourite James Brown story actually revolves around Bootsy who one night on stage, apocryphally, thought the neck of his bass had become a snake (too much acid). "[...] that pretty much cooled my gig with the Godfather..." Sorry Godfrey...not on any of my lists of interesting or admirable people. Though I was "of his generation" of music, his did not appeal to me at all. Liked the Lovin' Spoonful, the Cowsills, the Carpenters, Chad & Jeremy, etc... That Bootsy story is a perfect metaphor for what happened to funk at that time. Enter Sly Stone. Well, Jatfla, his personal life was not particularly admirable, and at the lowest points, detestable. He was a flawed man, but musically, wow, how can you resist the groove? I've only heard of a couple of the groups you mentioned, and from what I've heard from them, all I can do is offer my condolences. Sorry GD, I've been behind on my popping. Wildcat gives his love here Was not a fan until I saw him in concert - was well past his prime, in like 1984. But the man still had "it" and rocked the house. "My condolences"!!! Surely, you've heard of my list!!!??? :~) You must be much younger than I. But then, "rock" music never was my thing. And yes! I was a child of the 60's, but I was busy doing other things. Hated Woodstock and the hippies AND I didn't have anyone to help me make that decision. They all just looked goofy. My Uncle was of that time and often says he wishes he had the sense that you had, but he didn't. Better late than never, he says. He had some musical sense though. Saw JB first in High School and a couple of times after, and actually got to meet and talk with him. He was really taken with his down to earth, regular guy manner. |
