Having been born and raised in Hawaii, I recall that children were loved and treasured. In some of the rural areas, kids were often nurtured and cared for by all the families in the area. I don't know if this continues, but it was something to see and experience at that time.

You know, I think that Iowa was good to children relatively speaking. I really do appreciate and love my home state. They value education highly, and my public school preparation got me to the PhD, so no complaints from me.
