The trade statistics of 2006/07 show that exports to India comprised 70.9 percent (41.9 billion NPR) of Nepal’s total exports while imports comprised 60 percent (117.7 billion NPR) of the country’s total imports. Trade with India made up 61 percent of Nepal’s total external trade ((256.8 billion NPR). Compared to the 2005/06 figures, in 2006/07 there was an increase by 3 percent in exports and 10 percent in imports, further widening the trade gap with the southern neighbor.
