No pink. No sparkles. No fake high heels – or worse, real high heels.

Just a kid, wearing clothes a kid can play in, playing with a toy for kids.

Damn, I honestly never thought I'd feel nostalgic for 1981, but you look around at the pink-pink-pink-pretty-princess image that's shoved down girls' throats these days, and suddenly the 1970s standard kids' outfit (t-shirt, Tuffskins jeans, and Keds or other plain, practical sneakers) looks wonderful.

Hey, let's go back even further. I was a little, little girl in the 50's. My mother was an expert seamstress and loved frills & lace. I didn't. I wore over-alls, sneakers, made my own bow & arrows and Roy Rogers was my hero.

It's not a feminist issue; it's personal choice. I can dress up and look as feminine as the next girl. I'm petite, have been called graceful in my tennis game and no one has mistaken me for a guy.

No one pushed a stereo-type onto me. However I'm still happy with my female self.

And am...I think that the push is for young girls to look & act like prostitutes. Tight clothes, showing everything, too much make-up, emphasis on appearance & popularity, too much sexu...

Check out the Frontline report The Merchants of Cool about marketing popular culture and products to kids today.

Depressing. Seriously, previous generations of parents had stuff to deal with, but nothing in the world like Madison Avenue marketing "kinderwhore" and "Thug, jr" fashion and lifestyle to junior high students.

Someone says they are producing and advertising women style clothes and toys for little girls because in this way they don't need to brainwash them anew when they grow up: today eleven yrs old grls are already ready to go buying bags and shoes... it's timesaving for advertisers!
