hmmm... i get what he's trying to say, but i disagree somewhat. if i don't like what some actor is waxing on about, i'll just tune it out.

but to a certain degree, i think it's responsible for an actor to use his/her celebrity status to make the general public aware of issues we may never pay attention to otherwise. we put celebrities on a pedestal by nature, and tend to idolize them (for what-- being pretty? making an interesting movie?).

i would rather see most of them use this to their advantage and say things that i'd actually want my kids to idolize someone for... like charitable work, intelligence, compassion, etc. that may be too much to ask for some, but since WE turn them ...

i would rather see most of them use this to their advantage and say things that i'd actually want my kids to idolize someone for... like charitable work, intelligence, compassion, etc. that may be too much to ask for some, but since WE turn them into "personalities" with the media, i don't villify any actor for wanting to be known for something beyond his/her body of work. [side note: that said, the only reason we see so much of the irritation that is paris/britney/lindsay in the news is because the public seems to demand it with our morbid curiosity! if we never bought the tabloid nor watched the TV shows about these starlets, maybe they'd go away...]
