FYI the Steve mentioned in the clip is NOT me When you look at the numbers, it's enough to make you think that copyright law, was written by the holders of copyrights using money received through royalties, but they can't do that can they. A while back, the RIAA tried to promote the idea tha buying a record, tape or CD of music wasn't ownership of the medium or the music recorded on it, but simply a license to listen to it. They then maintained that they had the right to enforce copyright against sharing. Then they backpedaled when they realized that it meant that effectively, the labels would then be obligated to trade CDs even up for vinyl LPs, cassettes or even 8-tracks, since the owner of the obsolete media still had a valid license to listen to the music. |
