chestnut501 says: "Defensive Conservatism" From the clip: "We believe that political conservatism has psychological properties that make it particularly appealing when vulnerability is dispositionally or situationally salient," the researchers said. Does this mean when it affects them personally (a liberal) they quickly think like a conservative? @jay8h, It means a little more like feeling personally vulnerable, almost as though one may be targeted or singled out for something bad to happen. I think a good example of this happened with 9/11. Almost every American reacted more like a conservative than a liberal. Of course after a couple of weeks it started to wear off. It would take VOO DOO............or an EPIPHANY! Liberals and Conservatives have different ideologies....like night and day.......up and down. When feeling threatened people do tend to act more like conservatives........but it is usally short lived.......until the epiphany.........or VOO DOO dust! IMHO Interesting comment, chestnut, I would like to try to understand why this is so. Why is it only temporary? Frankly, I do not understand liberals. |
