Haha, that is great beer! Belgium is pretty close to where I live so we get all their fine beers in our supermarkets. Cheers! *Clang*

the holy grail of beers
Ah yes... aren't they all.

Alert Thisnamecantbetaken, I'm sure she could wangle you some!
It's a cut-throat beer world michellezm! BUT...I'm glad you have faith me. The beer has not yet been invented that could ever be denied me! Belgium, you say? Well, ahem... I have a little business I have to finish up in Ireland but after that, I'm free! Let the pilgrimage begin!! *LOL*

Well, true, West-Vleteren is awesome, but oh so rare.

So if unavailable, drink another trappist like Westmalle, Chimay, Rochefort, ... (I don't like Orval that much; never tried Achelse Kluis and refrain from drinking Dutch beer ).

Yeah, and because it's made by celibate monks, it won't give you "beer goggles" either, I bet!

Actually, Beijing and Seattle are both great places for getting Belgian beer, so if you are in either location and want to find some, let me know and I'll tell you where.

(Sorry, the rest of you are out of luck, I can't know every city! But Seattle, Beijing and Belgium are each approximately 1/3 of the way around the world from the other, so I can guarantee you won't have to travel outside your hemisphere!)

My favorite is Westmalle and Rochefort, I've only had West-Vleteren once, but it was great.

No disrespect to Djiezes, but I like Orval better than Chimay. I liked Chimay better when I first ...

Absolutely agree. I did a sort of impromptu tour of the Belgian abbey brewers while there. I loved the town of Rochefort. My wife and I did a hike through the idyllic woods in a light rain to reach the abbey. I’ll clip some photos of Rochefort when I can.

My absolute favourite I think, is Blaa Nykoebing, but I like plain ol' Tuborg Classic for every day occcasions though. I never could pass up a VB either, or a Carlsberg Julebryg...or a XXXX or a... Aww geez, it's like with kids, I guess. Can you really pick a favourite? I just love them all.

"Blå Nykøbing" is from the Danish brewery, Maribo. It's probably not well-known but it's divinity in a bottle, I'm tellin' ya!!
