The ultra-orthodox community still lives in the Middle Ages. I visited Israel a few years ago and didn't see any sex-segregated bus lines, but I wasn't riding the ultraorthodox express. Considering half the young women you see are in the military and carrying an uzi, I'd say they're telling them to move at their own peril. You are confusing two almost foreign to each other groups. There is almost no interaction ( even as little as verbal ) between the group that send its daughters to the army and the one that forces them to seat at the end of the bus and wear a wig after marriage. And, of course, there was no need for you to ride those bus lines - unless you do a ultra-orthodox tour. |
