jklugman says: John Boehner, January 23rd: I think it will be rather clear in the next 60 to 90 days as to whether this plan is going to work. Time's up. Ouch! It is working. Insurgent violence is down. The insurgents are turning on the terrorists. And a whole lot of Sunni tribal chiefs have decided to form a party and work to improve the image of the US military in Iraq. "Insurgent violence" is down? On what basis and according to whose measurement do you make that claim? Violence overall doesn't seem to be going down any, but that's just my impression. Is that wrong? Violence there isn't decreasing much overall, but that is because terrorist violence is increasing. All these recent attacks have been terrorist attacks, not insurgent attacks. And the insurgents are actually fighting the terrorists when before they teamed up with them. Ahh .. so this is another one of those "violence is up, therefore the war is in its death throes" arguments? Link - U.N. report and Times data paint grim Iraq picture BAGHDAD -- Academics are being assassinated, prisoners are being tortured, women are being murdered by their own families in so-called "honor killings," and civilians continue to be cut down by rampant violence, the United Nations said today in a report painting a grim picture of life in Iraq.
