I don't understand what makes this idea so revolutionary. Can you imagine the total forces at play when a school of several thousand fish is moving at maximum speed past a set observation point? Hydrodynamics and aerodynamics are different but closely related. Think about the air disruption when a plane passes at speed at low altitude. At close distance flags will flap like crazy. Consider a sparkling clear small lake and a dead lake. Many differences, of course, but lack of biologic agitation is certainly an easily identified difference of energy input between the two.
