hipster says: The truth is that soon, if Bush has his way, Mexican truckers will be driving our highways without any of the restrictions we put on our own truckers. I have a CDL. This is a federal driver license. I doubt Bush will get his way. There are also many American truck drivers that are entering into Mexico. You can't tell me they are all just a bunch of nice guys, with clean records. Just like in the states the same problems have been going on, on the other side. Let's just let both of country enjoy the great freedom they both have. I have great hope that skwirl is correct in that, but wouldn't it be nice if... rather than the decision being based on economic muscle, the decision were based on common sense and reality? I'm not going to beat the drum of terror, but we can reasonably assume that the trucks involved may very well be poorly maintained, drivers not qualified and all of that. Isn't that ENOUGH for any reasonable leader to say "No?" regardless of party? Isn't that what good governance should be? I'm being Pollyanna, I know. I have to say though that I am much more cynical about Bush and Republicans in general in this instance than I am about Dems, but I'm not stupid, and I know that without doubt they play this game too, very very well. |
