Another demonstration of how irrationality and superstition affects peoples lives. To most people this story will seem preposterous. To people caught in a web of magic and superstition it may seem mainstream. One man's folly is another man's religion.

The article is about residents of Kinshasa, DRC. "Africans" is a pretty broad brush to paint with.

So what? I notice you're from the Chicago area. If I called you American would you take offense? If I referred to you as North American, would that raise your hackles? Or is there something about Kinshasa that I should know? Is this area known for its fear of penis theft?

Regardless of how I chose the title of this clip it seems that your reaction is a bit over the top. What you're missing is not that I feel all Africans are in fear of someone stealing their package by magic but that anyone in the 21st Century would fall for such utter nonsense.

AlLib - The US, and, indeed, most of North America, is much more culturally homogenous than other parts of the world. We're a people with cultural roots that only go back a few hundred years. In places like Africa, India and southeast Asia, with thousands of years of traditions, one can cross cultural boundaries by going from one province (or even village) to another, and cities such as Kinshasa are not immune. Belief in evil sorcery are strong in many places in Africam but the local flavors are all different. Even in Europe, which is much more our cultural godparnet, regional differences are much more prounounced than they are here. In Germany, for instance, regional dialects can be so...

Quite true Jorjor. I guess I lose patience with my fellow humans sometimes. You'd think that after the 6,000 years since we were created we'd of learned something.
