I have been infected, which is the reason I need to put this in 2 parts - I no longer can cut and paste. It never showed up on any of my security programs:ZoneAlarm, SpySweeper,Spyblaster(did find some compromised sites) SpyBot Search & Destroy AVG antivirus, anti-spy,rootkit detector, Ccleaner, & on & on. I bought a new computer mine was so infected.

Why not reformat it, which is a good idea anyway with Windows, even if you were never infected.

Or change over to Linux. My son changed me over 4 weeks ago and it is terrific. NO problems.

He's done my second youngest machine since, and it hasn't worked as good in years. Next will be my oldest.

He's had his laptop on Linux 9 months. He's doing computers at university, so hopefully he should know a bit.

Righthand, what version of linux are you running? I was a longtime Fedora / Redhat fan, but have recently become an ubuntu lover thanks to all the strides they're making on the desktop.

I am also using Ubuntu on my main machine love it very simple to use and a lot faster than when I had WinXP installed on it. I assume you are running Feisty Fawn? and on the older one Slackware, though I don't use it very often.
