As the oldest of 3, and 15 years older than the baby--and 2 years older than the middle--who was the baby for 13 years--I've witnessed this birth order effect and been a participant. As a retired teacher, I've had siblings in the same grade/subject from oldest to baby in the family. Many observations mentioned in the article are what I've observed. As a parent of two, the oldest today is responsible, the baby is a slacker (does enough to get by, but does get along with everybody) they're now 38 and 33. I think what would be an interesting research subject is what happens when oldest marries oldest or baby marries baby.
