sahara says:
Sometimes this is done for very practical purposes, such as cutting down on matted fur, hairballs, fleas, etc. Not cruel.

Dogs get groomed all the time, it's not cruel, some really love the pampering. Most cats really hate baths, and flea collars are toxic, as are most flea "solutions", even garlic (sometimes used for fleas) is not good for them. long haired cats groom themselves alot and this leads to hairballs, not very enjoyable for cats to throw up, some even choke on them. I don't see this as cruel personally, and I love cats! I have 2 and they are spoiled rotten!

Oh no it's not cruel, as long as you're not nicking your cat. Might be embarrassing, but not cruel.
