earnric says: I know people are sensitized -- but "terrified" to the point of investigations, and resignations? Come'on people -- how can you live your life in fear. if you were there that day of 911, you too would live in fear! It was like the end of the world! A nightmare from hell! Take a look at the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ornoJFA41A&feature=related And listen to these 911 calls (especially the 2nd one) http://www.truveo.com/911-Calls-Panic-As-Planes-Flew-Over-NYC/id/2040206045 This was a really dumb move by this administration. Yeah he's MUCH better than Bush... I don't think the administration actually micro-manages to the level where they authorize photo ops for AF1. Yea - I know the nation was tramatized by 911 ... esp New Yorkers. But somehow Americans have become so insulated from the threat of death that now the sight of a plane flying low brings out panic. Most of the rest of the world lives with mass death on a regular basis. I'm not saying we should be callous, but come'on -- its not like the London Blitz of 1940. "its not like the London Blitz of 1940." Neither was 9/11... in NY it was just two planes. The result was thousands dead and soot from the towers filling the streets causing near darkness. I'm not minimizing the impact of the Pentagon or the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania, but the topic is NY thanks to this recent incident. The Obama administration clearly does micromanage this type of flyover and someone was asked to resign over it. As far as the Obama Administration micromanaging... they're even firing CEO's at private companies like GM and telling them what type of cars to build. I'm sure GM already has the market research which shows which cars people prefer and why as well as ... Oh, yeah that market research worked so well that they ended up in bankruptcy court with taxpayer dollar in hand. Worked wonders.... US Auto Companies have not been able to make money on smaller economy cars because The United Auto Workers Union has bled GM to death (and management allowed themselves to be held hostage by the Unions). I think it cost like $1,200 more per car just to pay for the benefits of the workers who've already retired. So with smaller cheaper cars that $1,200 eats up all of their profit. The US hasn't been able to compete with the small cars, so they built more expensive SUV's and trucks were they could make money - at least until the Gas prices shot up. Obviously, the banking/mortgage crises was the final nail in the coffin. We'll see how well Gov't Motors works when Obama Tells consumers what kind of cars they want. Ironic though how GM actually had more models that got over 30mpg than any other car company. Sure, blame the Unions for their workers benefits, never mind all the compromises they made to keep the big three going. Fact is that the Big Three have screwed the pooch so many times for so long. The writing on the wall was in the the 1970s but they failed to head the warnings. Oh jatfla should read this, a democrat had to resign! billpar - GM isn't a private company... The US Gov owns a significant stake in it -- and just like any other shareholder can exercise its rights as a shareholder. Who signed the UAW contracts? Who "forced there hand" ... sounds like scape-goating to me ... Sounds like bad decision making on the part of the car companies. No one forced them to sign those contacts - there were entered into freely. on the other hand -- are the contacts with the union part of the problem: sure they are. But again, who was responsible for signing them. So do you blame labor for asking for the moon, or management for giving it to them (or at least promising to). That's the thing with conservative opinion... They chant "responsibility", but when it comes down to it, they want to blame someone else. earnic, I'm not letting the management off the hook... you missed the 2nd part of the sentence that was in parenthesis where I said Management allowed it to happen. "The United Auto Workers Union has bled GM to death (and management allowed themselves to be held hostage by the Unions)." But when you say: "Who signed the UAW contracts? Who "forced there hand" AND "No one forced them to sign those contacts - there were entered into freely." Have you ever heard of a strike? When dealing with production lines this big it's millions of dollars an hour in lost productivity. You make it seem like the Unions have no power at all. But, I agree with you that there is shared responsibility so wh... Agree - I did miss that parenthetical. Reading thru too fast. I also agree: I don't think bureaucrats in DC can or will do better -- but left to themselves, the tendency of large corporations is to reward CEOs who both succeed and those who fail... How many successive months did the big 3 loose money -- and where was shareholder accountability? Who in upper management didn't receive their huge salaries or their big bonuses? Large corporations are like good 'ole boy networks: "you serve on my board, I'll serve on yours -- we'll all get great salaries and bonuses no matter how the company fares". Eventually, the market would correct such behavior -- but only have management gets their golde... earnic, Did you delete a post? I could have sworn you mentioned that ACORN was an empty lie? I didn't know you could delete a comment once it was posted. I must be missing something... there have been a few typos I wanted to correct but couldn't figure out how. I had a good response too, since there was new indictments this week for ACORN directly. http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/263E49F6-1904-4FB4-9E92-B143E1E1F136/ earnic, Never mind I found the post in another thread... it wasn't you. |
