09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role modelIs this true? This is a satire so no. Duh. Thanks. Don't I feel smart. Poor Coco! We can all be forgiven for being a wee bit slow at times - I am until 3.00 every day! this is excellent....makes references to almost all the RIDICULOUS claims made by opponents of gay marriage. Congratulations. I have never seen so many straw men in one place. Will someone please explain to me what this 'straw man/ men' thing is? I've seen lots of people using it here lately (usually to be nasty to other people) but I've no idea what it's a reference to. Ta. Oh they use that when they have nothing useful to say.. just ignore it... It is OK for them to be legay married However they should'n receive any social benefit paid to them unless they become parents somehow. Oh they use that when they have nothing useful to say.. just ignore it...Yeah, that's what I thought. But what does it mean exactly? Can I just point out to everyone that this is a SATIRICAL piece? Just before anyone goes and has a heart attack on us! @anonymology: A "straw man" is a rhetorical trick. You "attack a straw man" when you counter someone's argument by refuting things they never actually said. An example would be, for example, if you said (just hypothetically) you thought the US should remove its troops from Iraq, and someone answered you by saying, "So, you support the terrorists and want there to be another 9-11?" That person would be attacking a straw man in the sense that he was refuting something you weren't actually arguing in favor of. thanks enbar Ah! I see. Thanks CW! So you're saying I'm ugly?!?! LOL kwonsu: See # 6. Or is it #9? anonymous: Can I just point out to everyone that this is a SATIRICAL piece? Just before anyone goes and has a heart attack on us!Not ta worry... I know CPR!!!! I'm confused :| What about dear? I tend to add to confusion... When I'm not creating it, that is No i don't think any place in the world should have gay marriage. Why do you say this Muffenz? Why don't we all just agree that conservatives and republicans are living and breathing satires. That'll make life less offensive for the sane people. Now, I'm sane??? Wonderin' if I should be insulted.... more than the actual piece, i find it hilerious that someone could pick only #9 to be sceptical about, but believeing all the others... This is why its hard to get stuff changed in the world. The masses believe the stupidest crap, even or specially the crap served by political and religious leaders. Wow and just think, I could have been raised by 2 daddies just because they wanted to marry and play house and complete it with a kid so I could go to school and have my ass kicked every day. What a life for me A simpleton's view, if ever I've seen one. That's putting it nicely Well I am very nice CW!! Top Reasons Gay Marriage Should Be Illegal this is the most elegant (not) reason I have ever heard against the homosexual lifestyle. Stated very simply... "the plumbing don't fit" .... crude but it makes a point. Jesus loves are gay friends and can give them the power to change. Jesus loves are gay friends and can give them the power to change. The environment? That is true.. I know a number of gay people and they are all very eco-friendly "the plumbing don't fit"Please tell me you're joking. That's right ... and when you get right down to it, marriage is nothing but plumbing, isn't it. Good grief. OK, I started out being kind of relieved about my fellow humans from what I was hearing here. Now I'm starting to get kinda scared... Plumbing?? Marriage is about plumbing?? Someone should mention that when people get married. I had no idea. Moving on... Jesus loves are gay friends and can give them the power to change.Maybe instead, we should be discussing the state of education in this country because I'm just not getting this. Let me see if I can clarify this a bit... "Jesus loves" are gay friends? Then, exactly who are "Jesus loves"? And, whose friends are they? Are they just gay friends??? And, what about this power thing? Do they have ... lol I was being sarcastic about the plumbing, by the way ... guess it wasn't obvious. enbar: Not ta worry. I got it (was quite obvious... even to me). My brain just kinda short-circuited when I saw the original from Frenette.... Please explian
I r dumb Yes, that's helpful. It's satirical alright, but not good satire at all. Better arguments could have been used. Of you go then - make your own gay satire. You str8 folk are so funny.... Str8 = ? who is gay here? :-/ EVERYONE!!! Ok, I don't know. Despite trying to be humorous, and there being an obvious opening to present said humor, this list isn't even funny. It's just bad humor. I actually think it's rather clever. As I said above, I'm sure. I can only only agree with 1 point in that list: children need real mom and dad roles in the family. Otherwise the whole list is BS. Otherwise the whole list is BS.Just as well it's a joke them. who is gay here? :-/Who was it that said we're all a little gay inside? This is good, keen satire. I like it. I'm not really sure how you can call it a straw man attack, though. At least, I'm pretty sure there's serious intent behind a straw man. This being a joke... eh. Not so sure. That said, even if we were talking seriously about this subject, none of those arguments are straw men. Conservatives in my town have made statements that are, if not exactly what OhBlaDi posted here, they are close enough. I have an otherwise intelligent friend who told me that legalizing gay marriage would lead to people marrying their pets. No lie. Although, if you guys want to see a real fight going down, you ought to take a look at the flame war going on over at stopgeek, where OhBlahDi got this. Craziness. I have to admit, I do enjoy watching others engage in ludicrious arguements of an evening, but since I have no idea what stopgeek is, I shall have to do without. The title of the piece is a link to the article on stopgeek. Check it out, it is high hilarity. Especially the stuff from this chick named "jordan." That wasn't an invitation to post a link or anything. I don't think that's really appropriate. I... didn't post a link. The... article is a link. ¬_¬ Oh, well if the link is already there, I shall check it out (for as long as I can stomach it). Here’s one this list is gay. If it is truly natural then guys backholes would be there frontholes. Its not natural never is and frankly is one of the reasons there is so much disease. So please bait and switch.Oh my! Jordan's surely against thing notion of 'gay', huh! Bless his illiterate soul. Right, that's enough of that - my stomach didn't last long. (Says she who's been just as illiterate in that comment. Oh well.) Oh man, you miss the best part: friend of jordan (Grieving) said, Hi everyone… I am sorry to say that Jordan will not be posting any more messages here. It seems that during the night she had a vision. She saw her own impressive stupidity and bigoted ways in a new light and killed herself to make the world a better place. So keep Jordan in your non prayers tonight, as her body slowly PS: She is a republican. So keep Jordan in your non prayers tonight, as her body slowly decomposses I saw that bit. I've read a lot of it now but I didn't take the time to read the really long posts (shame on me, I know). I don't think that Jordan is the most shocking, really - he's just a fool - but there are people on that thread who are deeply homophobic. Not only do they not agree with gay marriage, but they are very prejudiced and venomous against gay people. In fact, I just clipped a couple of those comments. "Jesus loves are gay friends and can give them the power to change." I'm sure Jesus loves OUR illiterate friends and give them the power to grow some brain cells. P.S. Some of us don't care about Jesus and are very happy as we are. I really have a hard time with homophobia. I wasn't raised any differently, you know. My parents, God bless their ignorant souls, get a little itchy around homosexuals. But I love the homosexual culture, man. My gay friends keep me dressed well and make sure I don't look like a retard when we all go out somewhere. Not to mention I get a lot of support for my cause from the gay community (that being the legalization of marijuana - misery loves company, I guess Some of us don't care about Jesus and are very happy as we are.Couldn't have puit it better myself. And good for you, Dat (I can't type any more of it). We love Teh Gays! ;0 If god would have wanted to prevent us from getting gay he wouldnt have given us an anus. May god be with you! Straight, gay, lesbian, green, black, yellow, red, white, whatever. If god would have wanted to prevent us from getting gay he wouldnt have given us an anus.Apart from to do a poo-poo of course! I dare say that was 'his' most likely purpose for the anus! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. "God created them male and female" being gay is either a mutation or a sexual preference, in my belief. obviously, the first man and woman on earth, no matter what your faith is, could not have been gay or les. It is OK for them to be legay marriedSo if I understand this correctly, he's saying a person who works, pays taxes, makes contributions to charity & society, etc. should be denied health, dental & retirement benefits, unemployment insurance, and any other benefits strictly because of their sexual preference? Or if it's a parenting thing, then my wife & I who choose not to have kids are OK to be entitled to these benefits but homosexuals aren't? Suuuure... I guess that makes sense in a bigoted, homophobic, extremely prejudiced sort of way. NOT! I think us lesbians and gays should be allowed the same rights as a straight couple. I am planning to marry my girlfriend soon. it gives us security. you can't help who you fall in love with. love is a very powerful thing. some fight it but you have to be true to yourself and not let society decide who you should or shouldn't love. Jesus loved everyone inclueding gays and lesbians. XenaG; Why are you so mixed up about the application of love? Other languages have four different words to express the different applications in which we use one word. quick reference; Agapeo: expression of care without required return expression of care Phileo: expression of care and attraction in the nature of a friend Storge: expression of care and devotion between family members ie. parent and child Eros: expression of sexual attraction and intimate sharing. All of these can be combined, and in the combinations there are both appropriate and inappropriate expressions. It's good to have philo-storge, a friend who is closer than a brother. It is bad to have philo-storge, a moth... very well put JudgeRight. This topic has come up constantly within my family and circle of friends recently, and the fall of Rome was also given as an example in one of our discussions. nice one dude! very well put! the provocative headline to grab peoples attention, then the biting sarcasm to prove your point! History shows us that wherever this happens, the society is due for destruction. For instance, when Rome began to legitimize this behavior after a long run of successful rule, they quickly declined and fell from within. You need to study your history before you type this BS in.. Rome did NOT fall because of gay people... That has to be one of the silliest things I've ever heard... A number of influences were present during the fall, including: * too big, could not control all her people * too much out sourcing of policing and military to barbarian groups.. they splintered pieces off & took control of large areas * economy failed * external influences and enemies * gradual... You know I'm in the process of a divorce and so I read the title as "Top 10 Reasons MARRIAGE should be illegal" See now I agree with that! I so hope this is meant satirically. In either case not my taste of humour :/ hmm, a nicely understated piece, like a bomb made of jazz & feathers tuh hur. chuck chuck chuck. that is one funny list you got there billybob. i have this posted on my facebook. good stuff hhaha I don't even wanna get involved with this conversation about gays and stuff but this chat here is just a really good example how internet and clipmarks promote development. Whatever people think it's really nice they even talk about these issues. Has anyone googled the statistic probability that fundy christians are less likely to be able to spell, punctuate, and use proper grammar?? Just curious. (Oh. Sorry, that was a Straw man, wasn't it??) Regarding homosexuality and the fall of Rome: Greek culture was also accepting of homosexuality. The contributions of the Greeks to our modern society are unbounded, and are not diminished at all by the sexual orientation of Greek thinkers. Grow up, and stop trying to rationalize your predjudice Just because someone opposes something doesn't make them predjudice or ignorant. You are basically calling someone "ignorant" or "prejudice" because they don't believe the way you believe. Isn't that the exact same thing you are complaining about? I can choose my opinion and what I believe just the same as someone can choose to be gay. I can believe something is wrong just like you can something is right. 02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall. One really dumb reason... and another... 07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children. OK Not true at ALL... that's a sterotypical opinion right there. I'm astounded that there aren't at least a few people standing up for their beliefs and not jsut spewing what makes them sound right...I am opposed to gay marriage just as I am opposed to homosexuality, because it is not the way god intended us to live. I am partcularly against homosexual marriage because I am called in the bible to stand up for what is right. This may not mean that we as the Democratic Repuiblic that we are, should be able to force two people apart because of OUR religious beliefs. An OVERWHELMING majority of the population of the United States *says* that they are religious and Christian. While we must stand up for freedoms of all kinds to continue to call ourselevs the mo... @nickolai2 perhaps you'd like to "try to cite" some of your sources. @ nickolai2 Why would you ask respondents to your comment to cite facts when you haven't done so yourself? The only thing you reference to is the Bible and with that you don't even quote it verbatim. And even if you did (believe me, I've heard and read it all before) it doesn't carry and factual weight. The Bible is not concrete evidential fact by any means from a logical viewpoint. A cinder block carries more weight and that is a fact both logically and physical. The most important fact about the bible is that it was written by humans and not a God. It was written at time of the authors own ideology. There are many of those ideals that even the most righteous Christians in America ... Jesus who is the only person that actually wrote in the Bible who was said to be God's son never even mentioned homosexuality or any reference of it. Certainly, if it were truly an abomination don't you think he would have said so? Let's take a look at some interesting mentions in the Bible regarding sexuality. This is only a few them as there are many more and by comparison also many more than any references to homosexuality. Then answer the question of how ridiculous they are in the world in which we all live in now. Yet they were not considered ridiculous at the time of their writing. We all need to take ownership of what believe in and not take the easy road out by merely listeni... Christians- I'm with you on the concern- but- we shouldn't be shocked and outraged at the fact that the world is going in the opposite direction that we are. This is EARTH and not HEAVEN.(do we believe Jesus when he tells us that we will have trouble and the world will hate us?)There are more important issues here than religious freedoms-instead of fighting to try and make America more friendly toward Jesus, we need to be more concerned about befriending and loving others into the Kingdom of God. Fighting for our rights is unbecoming of a people who follow One who gave up every right out of love for us all. Religious freedom has done nothing but make the church more like the world surroundi... |
