The author seems determined to make a point that the choice of a word is some titanic struggle between the forces of good and evil. Chill out! It's just a word. He also misses the point that some of these words make. Some of these words communicate more clearly the message than the cleaned up version: "You are a hopeless wretch" is not as meaningful to some as You are a f*****. Then he goes on to associate the usage of these words with the absence of serious thought while weaving some fallacy about contempt for cultural norms. What an utter bunch of nonsense.

Debbyski - the difference being if someone calls me a hopeless wretch, I'd probably keep listening to them (though not with a smile). They call me a f******* and our conversation is done. Civility in tone, word and deed seems to be a lost art these days (regardless of which "side" folks are on).

Of course using thought provoking words instead of offensive language to make a point does take more skill and effort. Maybe that's the problem.

I think you are missing the point that using some sort of profanity to express the depth of emotion while expressing a point is not associated with an absence of any thought process or socialism. That kind of association is absurd.
