      Marjan, the blind lion found in the Kabul Zoo after the U.S. overthrew the Taliban government in Afghanistan, became a rallying symbol for animals that were victims of the war. He later died. Now animal welfare workers are concerned about the fate of the animals in Baghdad's zoos and private collections.
