Yeah, too many lol, but cool Great clip m-o-n-an it sure will help us non-natives. Way cool site m-o-n-a !! Hey, isn't "way cool" an idiom too? Hey this is cool! I just wish I knew what those mean It's gonna be so useful for all of us who don't have English as first language! Thanks Mona got it right from the horse's mouth! It's gonna be so useful for all of us who don't have English as first language!i quote. i've fallen in love with the phrasal verb list thank you English is a language that has been pieced from others over time, to form the patchwork construction it has today. Not to mention the side tracking it has done with various dialects. For every rule there is an exception. Australians are fond of idioms, such as pig's flying (unlikely), Hold your horses-pull your head in,(don't rush in) Forty winks.(sleep) Not always particularly Australian, but often used in common speech which can be confusing for visitors. The best thing about idioms is that there is a story behind them that makes them interesting and easer to remember. While it is complicated, English is colorful. I'm not sure it's been learned completely by any English speakers. It's amazing how complex it is to get communication flowing correctly. Thanks mona, this is really useful! Many of those aren't idioms, but aphorisms. Just FYI This is really helpful for people having English as a second language (me included ^^) THANKS! |
