Enter Dave Anderson, who manages a local restaurant and had gotten to know Dominic and his family, said the Sun. When he heard about the child's coping mechanism -- his mental transformation into the Dominator -- Anderson was floored.

"Dominic is an awesome kid," he told the Sun, "who never got scared at what he had to go through. He really is the superhero in this story."

To share that story, Anderson paid for the design and production of a Dominator comic book. He published 2,000 copies last month, of which half have already been sold. All proceeds will benefit children's cancer research.

Dominic himself continues to struggle, reported the paper. He is currently back in the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, where his mother is maintaining a round-the-clock vigil.

His grandmother, meanwhile, is putting her faith in the child's quieter brand of heroism.

"He has been fighting for two years, and he is still fighting," she told the Sun. "He always told us to believe. We are still hoping there is one more treatment to try."

I don't have kids, and I'm not sure how I would handle this situation. He must have some sense by now what is going on. I don't know if the parents should tell him or if he's too young to have to deal with such a complex issue. Tough call.

Dominic is the lead: The Dominator -- Dominic has assumed an active role mentally, which is probably more
than a lot of adults would be able to do in a similar situation. He's blessed to have the support of his family
and community.

That is nice and all , but in case the child does grow up and become physically well and free of cancer - is there no psychological damage being done here? Just saying, some kids go crazy when they find out there is no Santa; adults go nuts over Jesus and God. Sometimes, perhaps "truth" is the best policy in cases.
