It appears this happened in New Zealand. Sad to hear that this happens all over the world, not just the U.S.

Firing someone for that doesn't seem so outrageous to me. It is sorta stupid, but not something totally out of line. On the other hand, pressing charges for that nickels worth of soda does seem a bit insane. After all, the cup was already used by the worker and that is the most expensive part of the soft drink.
