Just as predictably, she stated that despite urgings from highly placed Republicans, thank you, no, she would not pursue the presidency.Interesting. First she mentioned "thousands of mistakes" about Iraq war, and now she says she's not after the office. I feel, she has been very disturbed by "something" recently and she wants to put a distance between herself and the war-monger hardcore neocons.... Or, there's something "deeper" in this story, who knows? That article was just so incredibly long, detailed, and well-timed that you gotta wonder what's going on. The press is obviously co-operating with her (or her advisers) desire to soften her public image considerably...for whatever her future may portend. I think she's sincere when she says she doesn't want the job of US President. But, if enough powerful people twist her arm hard enough... This article succeeds in making her look more human / less robot. Makes it look like a lot of the ugly neocon policies and tactics she participated in were foisted upon her somewhat reluctantly. No wonder she treasures her personal escapes so much. She may well know of the internal power struggle in the administration and be actively courting a new image as a way to gain some strength in that struggle. Yes, but I can't help asking "what for?" Strength for keeping her position and public image as the Secretary of State? If she does not have plans for a "further career" in political arena, does she really need strength? Where do you expect and hope to ascend from the Secretary of State position, if you're not thinking about the President's office? Under normal circumstances, nobody would try to get her down from her present position and she can probably run it till 2008 elections. If she really rules out presidency, then why bother? She would go back to her academic career in peace. Or... Is there another thing, smouldering in the neocon frontier, like a "reorganization" project in the gove... Or... Is there another thing, smouldering in the neocon frontier, like a "reorganization" project in the government, in the near future? I sense a manoeuvre here that I haven't figured out or get a clue yet.Yes! Exactly! Don't you see, this is just another perfectly-formed piece of the vast, impenetrable neocon strategy Karl Rove is unrolling for ensuring permanent, un-breachable conservative power here and abroad, now and in the foreseeable future? Don't ask how...this is bigger than you or I can comprehend! Regardless of that, this wild, conspiratorial speculation is something we need more of here and on the internet in general. Your first paragraph was starting to sound a l... <opinion> I am sure there is a lot of talk in the “back rooms” as to how to transition the Administration to best succeed in 2008. It is not a matter of Bush the Lesser continuing in office, he is term limited (at least right now he is) but of keeping the current gang in power. They may well even allow a falling from power if they can keep the other side in check (as they did with Clinton). If I were them I would wait until after this year’s elections to plot out a course. If the Democrats manage to take over the two chambers of Congress (I wouldn’t bet on it just yet) then they will need a major restructuring and new plan to try to hold on to the White House in 2008 (I still pick Jeb as... <consensus> The current gang is in preparation of "something" with or without Bush. Whatever this is, has straight connections with the results of this year's elections and the possible situation following it (the aftermath.) Democrats (in particular likes of clinton and Kerry) are not reliable and American people should take care of itself. </consensus> <theory; type=unorthodox; class=conspiracy> This autumn or early 2007 could witness an unprecedented turmoil in the USA. Polarization keeps on going at both sides. </theory> Can we all agree that Condi is the smartest, most educated, most cultured, most worldly member of the Bush cabinet? She hasn't been a lifelong politician like most of those in Bush's circle. Before her business dealings, she was an academician (starting here at the U of Denver, no less). Could it be possible that she feels the pain the most being associated so closely with such ugly, unpopular things like Iraq and US torture policy? Seems reasonable that, as a perceptive individual, she wants to remind the world (maybe even her friends and family, too?) of her softer, human nature, too. Some of the Bush-bots have feelings. I have no complaints with her... sure, there are some things I think could be better handled but overall, she's one hell of a woman. Agreed. Her only vulnerability is her strong ambitions and passion for a high political career. Now she's desperately thinking what she'll make out of it all. Her dreams seem trapped in Iraq and PNAC trenches. Could it be possible that she feels the pain the most being associated so closely with such ugly, unpopular things like Iraq and US torture policy?kore, i hope that is the case. i often wonder how the top members of the bush administration keep on fighting. how do they stay so focused in the face of all this failure (perceived or otherwise)? it would make me feel much better to know that they find it painful to be causing such damage and being so disliked. It's the sense that it doesn't even phase them that freaks me out. |
