Only one problem with this. General Petraus had already said a month ago. That this operation will probably take a century to complete. Maybe he doesn't know how long a century is.

Petraeus is a General and Generals like their flag offices and spit shines which means they have to follow orders, mind you Patreus was doing a rather decent job with the 101st, but he was in Mosul and the Kurds certainly did not want to pick a fight with them.

Iraq is like Yugoslavia, a artificial construct held together by fear inducing will of a tyrant(s). Once he was gone, it went to Hell in a hand basket. Even things calm down in the late summer and fall, who is to say that the surge can be maintained, the numbers don't add up (logistically or politically), and while al-Qaeda in Iraq might be defeated (never a bad thing), that will simply clear the way for the Iraqi ultra-nationalist ...
