RecordSage says: Nice stuff from some Russian boys. Remember the Apple Newton fiasco? They were responsible for the hand-recognition piece. I heard a story (which is likely to be BS, but it has an amusement factor) that they bought the technology from some professor for a bottle of vodka. Hopefully this version works better than Newton did. I use EverNoteand I love it. Does anyone use tiddlywiki here, it's pretty amazing, though little time consuming to adjust with. I love Evernote too! Firefox's little extension makes it so easy. I need to spend some time on categorizing things though. Ok, you guys convinced me to try it... we'll see how it compares to OneNote, my current favorite. Evernote is like a toilet paper roll....:~) You just keep adding stuff. Highly recommended. O.K., I thought this might be some left wing download that would put subliminal stuff on my computer (i.e., contribute to moveon.org), but then I saw the Godfrey Daniel seal of approval. I'll check it out. Trust but verify. I could be a double agent. arifsali .. . TiddlyWiki is amazing. It will blow your mind. Seriously. Err, sorry, I just misread your comment ... I guess you already know how great TiddlyWiki is. Although lately I use Backpack more. oh. i wish they had it for mac. it looks interesting. Lord have mercy, is that thing mysterious! My mind is blown, but not as you were predicting. I have no idea. Me too. No idea. I have played with it a bit since my last comment, and although I have a much better idea of how it works now, it sure is different from anything I've ever used. Really kind of amazing for a 216k html file. Is it strictly text, Enbar? Yes it is. It's like a micro-wiki. Instead of linking pages as a wiki does, it links "tiddlers" (very stupid name, I realize). Tiddlers are small snippets of information that open and close on the page. It's a simple principle, but I find it's rather astoundingly useful. The other thing is that there's an extraordinarily devoted and active developer community around it, so new plugins are constantly being developed and there's a lot of help for new users. If you want to try it out without downloading anything, open an account at http://tiddlyspot.com. It's great for brainstorming and planning. It's like an outliner for people with ADD (like me). PS I think it ought to work on the Mac thoug... They moved their blog, there are some pretty amazing examples available here (http://tiddlyspot.blogspot.com/) of what this thing can do. I like EverNote's design a lot and used to use it; but in my recent workflow, I haven't opened it up a lot. I think one of the reasons is because categorization took too much time, and I was finding simple text files on my desktop to remind me better. For the things I can briefly summarize, I use Google Desktop's To Do. I have been messing with note programs a lot lately. The only one I really use a lot is the quicknote plug in for firefox because of it's convience, but while it is great for keeping some information close at hand, it is limited overall. That said, I believe I am going to uninstall all those other note programs now. This one does all they do (that I want anyway) and more, and it's integration with firefox is one of the major reasons. RecordSage is absolutely right in the both cases: 1) Yes, I was a founder of ParaGraph and we developed Calligrapher for Newton and lately this technology has been bought by MS (they had renamed it in Transcriber, but it is the same s/w - trust me). Many key developers of Calligrapher/Trancriber work for EverNote now, including The Professor 2) Yes, you are right: the story about a bottle of vodka is BS. The professor became a full time employee of ParaGraph in 1990, a co-founder and a shareholder of the company and co-author of the United States Patent 5,467,407 If you have more question I'll be glad to answer. Stepan Pachikov www.evernote.com (my e-mail is my first name ad evernote dot com (ad is a latin word means at = @)) Thanks for the clarifications and the real story. Much appreciated and my apologies for spreading faulty rumors. Well, even though Newton sucked - the tablet character recognition MS put out is phenomenal. Kudos to all of the people behind it. I went to a tabletPC seminar when it was coming out and a guy from MS was demoing it and as bad as my handwriting is - his was far worse and the software converted it to text with incredible amount of precision and 'smarts'. ALERT! Today's the last day (May 31) to get the Evernote Plus, they're newest release for $19.95 (that's $30 off the regular price). If you want to get it - get it today! |
