Amen. should I feel guilty when being so euphoric? Let me get this straight. One of the most anti-libertarian politicians of the past 150 years is going to "echo" one of the most libertarian politicians since the founder's generation ? Reality check: The similarities of the Lincoln and W. Bush presidencies are startling. A leftist version of Lincoln would certainly more likely "echo" Mussolini. I guess Obama reads Lincoln differently. Or understands the ignorance of his audience and the enormity of his myth. Let's leave the interpretation to the 'common looking people' who are a lot wiser than to be part of an ignorant audience. It's roughly a 1/3. You know, the 1/3 that supported the Civil War. The 1/3 of Christians an non-materialists who fought slavery. The 1/3 who supported entering the European theater of WWII. The 1/3 who supported freeing Iraq and Afghanistan from their fascist nightmares. The 1/3 who recognize the fascist tendencies of Obama and the Neocons are more similar than different. And, the one third that feeds and provides a livelihood for the 2/3rds that go through most of their lives oblivious to anything meaningful. By the way, if the clip is true and Obama takes a more conservative and hawkish stance toward issues of preserving liberty, continuing the fronts in Iraq and Afghanistan, which are coming to close and confronting America's enemies, then he can truly set the stage for his potential greatness. If he takes the progressive road of Carter or the fascist road of the neocons or Woodrow Wilson, then my suspicions of him will have been correct. @willhelm - You don't know what the hell you're talking about...and you're rather rude about it as well. Since you seem to think you're smarter than anybody else in the room, or in the audience you might have an inkling of the idea that people with real brains don't have to win arguments by calling everyone else dumb. You,sir. Are a dumb ass. Go 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 @#$ yourself. P.S. -- oh yea. Obama is a really good, decent and smart man. I see his political ID as being a populist and reformer, who believes in considering all other opinions and views and seeks to work towards consensus. He also is a great admirer of Lincoln (who also sought other views, having Republicans in his Cabinet, et... "...echo Lincoln". Tee-Hee. Gosh, the very things the Bush supporters were ridiculed for has now switched hands. You see it was funny when George said it because he couldn't even hold a candle to Hoover, so no way he could echo any real leader was laughable beyond belief. As for Obama, we will see, but he certainly shows potential, starting with brains. A bit of an apology to other posters....but when I read smug lines like: "[Obama] understands the ignorance of his audience and the enormity of his myth. " ...there is a smugness behind such words is sickens me. Also, to talk of Obama having "fascist tendencies," is so removed from reality and observations but also so much in denial of the real road to fascism that Bush put us on (approving torture, indefinite detention in Gitmo, widespread spying on all citizens with no reasons necessary, private armies like Blackwater, etc.) -- so these ugly realities start us in the face and some jerk wants to distract us? or take away support from Obama? but accusations that, at best, can only be p... (cont.)...got on TV and said is any of these missiles were used there would be a full-scale nuclear attack against Russia. That's heavy duty; that's about as heavy-duty as it gets. We didn't accept nuclear missiles on our shores, in Cuba. the Russians will not accept us putting nuclear missiles on their border; and the stakes are high. So, what does Obama do? Does he start his first day as President by backing down to the Russians? (even thought the Russians are totally acting in self-defense to USA actions that are tantamount, almost, to an act of war...you know, sticking a gun in your face) Get this, btw; there is a joke here: Bush White House neocons and their cohorts claim 1. The... (cont.) ...awaken Europe to the real danger here; there are already many strong protest groups there against these USA plans for a missile base....if they can get riled up maybe their pressure can get the bases removed -- all the better if this happens while Bush is still in office. Or, at least, Obama could start work, say this is a mess (another mess), and because of the strong and overwhelming PROTESTS OF OUR EUROPEAN PARTNERS he is stopping these Bush plans. (But it can't look like he's 'backing down from the Russians, IMO) This guy got a lot of mess to do. I say, anyone trash talks him, tell them to go to hell and let's get back at looking at the real world mess we're in and figuring good ways out of it. Or understands the ignorance of his audience and the enormity of his myth.Exactly. @willhelm Exactly. I know, like lots of people, that I was dumb and prone to believe lies. Thank you for pointing this out. We are so lucky to have smart people like you to tell us the truth. How did you become so wise? Do you think there's a chance that we may learn or is this a permanent state of ignorance we're in? Do we also have to become rude a-holes? Do we have to learn to insult the 'masses." |
