There used to be a free dialup connection until the broadband killed the modem and the altavista/netzero with it.

We still pay cable to watch advertisements, and same goes for internet. I digress!

Internet is a public domain, not commodity. I hope someday Wi-Fi will make it free. Freedom of Information
cannot be supressed forever by greedy guys.

This never occurred to me until now! What a concept. The cable company charges us to watch the networks who are broadcasting what... 30% ads? Thanks, arifsali for this "eureka" moment.

EGS, That is why TV pisses me off. I pay to watch and they show me ads. I didn't pay for that. Its not in my contract. My contract says channels and content. If I wanted to watch ads I should have the choice of ordering an advertisement channel. I wonder how those sales figures would look?

I had NetZero until they jumped the shark and started charging $9.95
I had other free dial-up connections and once I afforded broadband I went back to dial-up and almost died. Now I have to have broadband or nothing. Dial-up is just too damn slow- even after tweaks and methods.
A free broadbband service would be nice. Even if it was limited it could allow many people the chance to use this info super highway to enhance their lives. Dial-up makes it so difficult to get any real value its just not worth it. Free or not.
Something has to pay for maintaining the servers and routers and hubs. I say big bussiness could handle the costs relatively easily. I only fear that when it goes free we will pay in other 'Worse' ways.

Communication has never been free. Start from your physical verbal communication, aside from talking to your family in your own house, you will have to travel to talk to your distant family (gas, car). Then comes the phone, you pay for it (no advertisements here), but now the phone has been broadbanded as well, yes, the cellphone, you not only pay extra to communicate, you get the junk in mail and e-mail as well over it. Ever imagine which business is the second most advertised (after cars) in American media? It appears to be cellphone to me. Just look at the airwaves and print media, the car sellers and cellphone sellers are all over on daily basis.

Back to communication, snail-mail (...

Things We All Need

Health Care
Clean Water
Communication (phone, TV, Internet)

We don't have health care, we have a health care industry, we don't have water management we have a water management industry, we don't have communication, we have a communication industry. The whole of Mankind needs certain vital[/b] things that we all use and need such as these few, and we need them readily available, but when the remedy to these needs are put behind a toll booth we all pay about 30% more and receive about the same degradation in service. Utilities are such as these, we all need and use, why would we need an industry between us and a vital service? It would be di...
