BitDrifter says: Mirrors Alcoholics in some respects. I'm not knocking internet addiction. Porn & MMORPGs can be a real problem. But honestly, how can we get on the soap box regarding internet/computer use and not say a thing about television, a far more pervasive and harmful habitual behaviour? People sit on their lazy boys and disengage their minds for hours at a time when they get home from work or school. At least games allow some kind of interaction with others. Look at what we're doing right now. Talking about the issues of the day. If this were a "town hall meeting", we'd all be upstanding citizens. But simply because we're using computers, we're somehow "addicts"? I'm reading this on my laptop as I float down a river in Egypt on a raft. Is that you up ahead, Mr Skinner? Oouch! I'm not an addict, I can quit anytime. Just because I I definitely understand this. I agree with adamskinner, partly, but I can definitely recognize something a little irrational or compulsive about the way I rush over to the computer to check out what's going on, say, for ten minutes between breakfast and going to work, or something. It's not as if I really need to know what's new on Clipmarks ... heh. |
