GOOD ONE ! Thanks I think i might have seen that before... but excellent! Great clip Thank you. To profound not to be true. Horrendous logic. We eat pigs, cows, chickens, fish, corn, wheat, sugar, rice, beans....I haven't heard the disastrous news that these things are threatened by extinction. Yet, we do not eat Panda, gorillas, and elephants. The water is cleaner in cities today than during the 1800s. More people have extremely easy access to fresh water than ever in the history of man. There are more trees in America today than any time in our histroy. In fact, we should let nature run its course and allow forest fires to burn themselves out and just focus on re-directing and protecting property. You can have have your religion, but at least have one that uses some basic reasoning. Wow, Willhelm... what kind of fantasy land do you live in? Sounds like a nice place... if only it were real. — Comment removed by moderator — Willhelm you live in Coo-coo land!!! Name one thing I said that was wrong. I may be wrong, but it is not logical to assume that I am. Did they have panda bears on the prairie? Seems not logical to think about eating panda's when they're not around. Willhelm, it's a proverb, not a rule what to eat and what not. Good grief. Use your brain for goodness sake. The clip is about a proverb that insults the intelligence of any rationally thinking person. If it is not an insult to your intelligence, well then, that pretty much says it all. You apparently miss the point of the clip and my comment. Sorry I wasn't more clear, but I fail to see how it could have been more so. Then we both fail, because, i still fail to see your point and in particular what you suppose would be the point of the clip, which was clipped by someone else. I don't feel offended if you don't like to explain, but at least I can ask. 1. The proverb is a statement against the economic use of nature, especially in context of an advanced, fractal-like paradigm of the free market. 2. The logic fails because economic use of renewable resources and nature insures the health of the environment and nature. Think about how many millions of chickens are consumed daily. MILLIONS. They will never be extinct. Yet Panda, elephants, gorillas, etc are going extinct. They have no other value other than our interest in maintaining their survival for naturalistic reasons. Capitalism preserves. 3. If you look at former materialist systems..fascism, communism, etc... They have no consideration for the environment because there is no econo... I'll give you another recent example: Bison were nearly extinct following the Dustbowl in the American midwest. In recent decades they have been ranched for their meat and hide. Their numbers have exploded. The reason the numbers have exploded is BECAUSE of money. Were it not for money they might well be extict by now. CLIP TITLE: Living Without Money, ref: Cree proverb. Ok, now I understand what you tried to say. Thanks for explaining. Although I might differ in thoughts and views, or if you like, in perceiving plain facts, I always find it more useful to understand what exactly the difference in opinion or definitions might be, than to start defending my grounds. That at least enables me to learn. Maybe the title is indeed questionable; i would think the Cree had / were some sort of economy too, even if merely based on trade and agreements. If they depended heavily on bison as a multipurpose source it wouldn't be in their interest to let the population shrink. As far as I know, the strong decline of bison during certain period was disastrous for many nati... Well my issue is with this statement you made "There are more trees in America today than any time in our histroy." It's not even possible considering how much cities and farmland have covered over what used to be forests. New York for example. Also, city water I wouldn't consider necessarily clean either since it has chemicals added to it. And rivers really are polluted with factory waste. But actually I do agree that forest fires should be left to burn out on their own. There are certain trees that depend on fire to spread their seeds for one thing. And if you look at Mexico, they don't do firefighting and their forest fires burn out much more quickly and over smaller areas. The ve... Jmatts, you read my mind. Here in B.C. we have had some bad forest fires over the last few years. When the last really bad forest fire season was in full swing, i caught a show that had a lot of interviews with firefighters and Fire Chiefs, etc. They said that after it became policy to fight the fires, so much fuel built up on the forest floors that the fires just get way too hot. They obliterate practically everything and forests take longer to regrow because of it. They are way worse now. So it's regrettable that we started fighting them, as a rule, in the first place. Thanks for explaining. Although I might differ in thoughts and views,Janclip1300, Clarity is more important than agreement I always say. My intentions are not to persuade, per se. Thanks. jmatts, your problem is your sense of scale. Cities and urban sprawl are such a small percentage of total area that it pales in comparison. I'm glad there is agreement with me on the forest fire issue. A much better policy would be to cut out brush to decrease intensity ... Willhelm, I am surprised. You sound so educated. But yet you come on Socratoad's clip and then insult him, when he hasn't even said anything to you. Well I guess an education of any amount of years does not preclude a person from rudeness. Excuse me? Perhaps a bit of history and context would be in order. I'm down 10 to one. I have some catching up to do. Oh. Guess it's okay then No. It's not OK. You are right, ideally. The problem is there are those who care only about political division. Truth be damned. A handful a clipmarks are among that crowd and I guess they do inspire a bit of the dark side. I get much more than I give that is for sure, but I actually kind of like that. It just seems to me that a person can prob get their point across more efficiently if the person hasn't shut themselves off because they are plain P.O.'d at you (you as in anyone) Unfortunately I have had a chance to be familiar with this concept--piss me off, and I don't care what you say. Of course that's just me. Maybe it doesn't work that way for other people. Hey guys/girls I'm off to bed now. I really enjoyed the talk, but it's nearly 6 in the morning (usual time) Until next time, cheers! lollipop, In the 3 plus years I've used clipmarks, I can count on 1 hand the number of times someone has changed their opinion on something. Only a couple of times am I aware of someone changing their ideological outlook. Here are some rules I live by in my comments. 1. clarity is more important than agreement. 2. persuasion is not my intent. 3. I may be wrong, but it is not logical to think I am wrong until it is logically proven that I am wrong. 4. truth, perception, and honesty is more important than feelings and etiquette. 5. Do unto others.... ( and this is much more complex than most people think ). Objectively we would want someone to beat the stew out of us if we were dispossessed o... Goodnight Janclip! Geeze, Willhelm--if you're not trying to convince/persuade anyone....what's the point of talking? hmmm...... Well, I should clarify that I am not intent on persuading the person I am commenting to. Everyone must realize that no one wants to admit they are wrong. That is why it never happens. However, Ive gotten tons of emails from readers who appreciate my points who never even made a comment. In other words, my focus is not on persuading, rather presenting a logical and clear argument for anyone elso who comes along to read and consider. lollipop, thank you for your interjection on my behalf, alas it seems that willie and I are like oil and water ....our perceptions or perhaps values are, for the most part, but not always, are so far apart as to grate on each others nerves. I will not block him, or any other person however. I am sure it grates on your nerves that I come along on a clip and destroy the preposterous premise. As I did here. That is what grates on anyone who is intent to remain in their clouded vision. It is funny that it is this reality that impels you to explain that you will not block me. If it was your policy to block people, then why would you block me? After all, this is a successful and appreciated clip. It got 30 pops from people just as ignorant, who seem to have the inability to reconcile reality and their deluded outlook. Would you care to make a case against anything I said in regard to the clip. Of course you won't. You choose to make your spars against me as stand alone point. That is truly sad. Ah, once again the is Mrs Willhelm watching the passing parade and applauding wildly: LOOK SEE THERE ... everybody is out of step except my little boy. Ah, see?. Can't argue against my points, so you make it about me. Quite revealing, the projected image. Thank you. Oh willy ... sigh. You certainly are one of a kind. Ahahahahaha!!!!!! You certainly are one of a kind.At a forum such as this, where the intellectually feeble and logically averse are ubiquitous, you have that exactly right. But notice again how your point is of me and not the issue. This is always your game. Disregard evidence, comments, logic and attack the provider of evidence and logic. Would you like to try something different for a change? How about discussing your clip instead of attacking me? How about addressing my points? How about giving insight about what you think this clip says or means to you? How about an engaging discussion where I might learn something about your perspective other than that it is founded in hate and bigotry? This is what i get from the clip: -the huge differences between their culture and ours -the way that the Native Americans lived in tune with the land, and respected it -the way that they found uses for everything -they lived simply (yes, i know it was out of necessity) and needed little -i would also guess that they were trying to point out the error of our ways, but without researching how old the proverb is, i can't say that for sure Willhelm, as far as i am concerned, you came on this clip and made it ALL ABOUT YOU. (I would put that in italics but that feature doesn't seem to be working, so no I am not yelling at you) Very clever by the way. You throw in the odd thing, such as, ... lollipop, How exactly did I make it about me? I made a comment about the inept logic of the proverb. That is it. Since then, I have been attacked by you, janclip, jmatts, socratoad, and brightlight 4, NONE of whom offered the slightest bit of perspective or useful contribution to the substance of the clip or response to my comment. How did I respond to that?...... Refer to my comment 9/24 - 7:16...I respectfully made a simple and humble request that remained open to the fact that my argument was invalid. Name one thing I said that was wrong. I may be wrong, but it is not logical to assume that I am.Then, You come along and accuse me of making the clip about me? How so? Ho... The fact remains that not only is the clipped proverb pure drivel, the exact opposite is true. I have made the case to no objection. Here: but at least have one that uses some basic reasoning.here: Use your brain for goodness sake.here: insults the intelligence of any rationally thinking person.here: If it is not an insult to your intelligence, well then, that pretty much says it all.here: Common ground is easily found if your not hopelessly lost like socratoadI could go on, but actually it's too much of a pain in the rear. I've got lot's of tabs up on my computer so it's slowing everything right down, and i'm not closing them all just to make it faster. These are all veiled insults, and you threw the first one with the basic reasoning comm... That's how I made it about me? OK, lollipop,There is not one damn thing wrong with any of those comments I made, taken in context and intended objectively. They are observational and true. I have attacked no one the way you have attacked me. I'll just accept that you are contentious, bigoted, and unwilling to have engaging exchanges. 1. I made my points clearly without attacking anyone. Yet, I have been attacked. 2. I demonstrated my willingness to accept that I may be wrong and requested information. Yet, I was attacked and no one offered anything - only attack. 3. I achieved a point of respectful dialogue with janclip, and we respectfully departed neither convincing the other, agreeing... |
