debbyski says: "Now, women are taking courses run by nongovernmental organizations, getting educated and learning ways to improve their family incomes. Most important, the women have won over the men, she said. “Their minds have changed,” Najiba said. “They want to share decisions, not too far, but they want to give us some share.” Women’s life expectancy is only 45 yearsWow! Now that it's out in the open we can expect thinks to become the same as it is everywhere else in their country. Those poor women. Nice to read this. Can't pop as many today as before but kudos nonetheless. Sometimes it's amazing to me how emotionally strong women can be. Debs, I am in awe of the strength of women. It's most evident amongst our black women. They are the most oppressed, repressed, suppressed people on this continent and yet they are the workers, the child bearers, the breadwinners, the caregivers etc. etc. The men are useless. Their role in life is to sit around jawing whilst being waited upon hand and foot by their women. They are also notoriously unfaithful and can take as many wives as they like. But these black women are strong, physically, mentally and emotionally and very resourceful. They are, to my mind, the backbone of African society. They are the true treasures of Africa. Sadly, for the most part, they are treated like dirt. |
