If there is one thing I've learned by talking to fundies on the internet is that they only understand ONE thing - the Bible (or rather, a few parts of the Bible they choose to focus on).

You can't use logic, reason, science, evidence, etc to make a point. It never works.

The ONLY way to get through to them is to reference the Bible. Fortunately, the Red Letters (allegedly Jesus' actual words) are pretty good at backing up liberal morality.

Learn some verses, quote some verses, beat them at their own game.its handy to engage them in a conversation that they haven't had before, because they don't have the mental blocking blinders on. Get them thinking about new topics in new ways, and you just may open their eyes a little.

As a teenager, I once silenced my father by following his admonition of "a child should honor his mother and father" with "and a father should not provoke his children."

Amazing how religion has twisted Christianity into something so hateful and unrecognizable as the endeavour to emulate Christ. Jesus was strongly liberal, and was arguably the first recorded communist.

The religions can stick that in their craw and smoke it.

The argument is still there that religion has been primarily used as a control of people and their behaviours. This gave the leaders power which has been fostered by all religions up to and including the corporate religions we see now. To me, it is merely the extension of those fairy tales that told us not to go into the woods in a red cape. And stay out of granny's bed.
Chedare has the answer - education.
The Rt Rev Patrick O'Donoghue, the Bishop of Lancaster, has claimed that graduates are spreading scepticism and sowing dissent. Instead of following the Church's teaching they are "hedonistic", "selfish" and "egocentric", he said.

"and a father should not provoke his children."
Every Christian kid ought to have this verse in their ammo stockpile.
