Kore7 says: Agree with him or not, you won't be able to ignore this guy. The man makes a lot of good points and he's certainly entertaining, but the whole media/stereotype mantra isn't exactly on the level - they may have sensationalized things, exaggerate things and even misreport things, but to answer his question - they didn't steal his religion - some of his own people did and the media/stereotypes simply exploite it for their own benefits. Perhaps he can do an interview with UBL and see just how much of a non-muslim he is. Now THAT would be a video to behold! It would be a mistake to underestimate the power of media imagery on shaping people's ideas of what Islam is. It always amazes me how otherwise very intelligent people can be so unwilling to recognize this. Media has great power, which is part of the global problem. If they were truly unbiased, as they should be, than things would be very different worldwide. Unfortunately, they are and my old boss used to say 'men are sheep' and so we have the Ill man of N. Korea informing the public of the imminent nuclear attack from the US, via his good friend - the media. As compelling as the gentleman in this video is, and as popular as YouTube is - he isn't reaching anywhere near what the mass media reach. And his message, although plausible and somewhat thought-provoking, isn't totally accurate either. The bad news is that we all have to get our news somewhere and mass media is the only choice, however flawed and biased it might be. I have yet to watch this video, but based on the comments, here is another reasonable analysis from the world of Islam. Islamic moderates have hijacked Islam. It's the militants that adhere to the fundamental principles and dictates of Mohammed. |
