Thank you for posting this article. I read the whole thing and it is a bit terrifying to see that all of the basic tenents can be applied to America. When you read history books as a kid, you read these things and see Mussolini or Mao 's name and think it can't happen to America because they believe in Democracy... their country was founded on Democracy... Well, we are living thru history and can't see the outcome until it is two late and those 10 steps are sealed in stone.

Yep, that's a bit scary - the kind of historic amnesia our human fellows seems to suffer from. In many places today you can see resurgence of the far-right "nazi-type" movements, as if the horrors of WW2 never happened. I had also this thinking about science. At school, i always eared about "medieval obscurantism" and was so glad i lived in a "reasonable era" ... up to the day i had to confront myself with the fact that science today may be considered, in some ways, as obscurantist as before. Maybe it has something to do with the general human arrogance as a species : we are so superior, how can we ever be wrong ?? Really scary ...

Great term that "historic amnesia".
Our recently departed Prime Minister seemed to love history but he took a very blinkered view of it. (Where will I fit in? was a driving force.) He ignored all history that was not relevant to him.

Yep. I am so glad what is happening now in your country (...crossing fingers...). I made that clip once :
Australian Leader Will Apologize to Aborigines

I think in that case - also in the case of Spain vs South America, Or England vs North America, we see a whole culture rooted on genocide history. After one century or two, we still can feel, on the collective sub-consciousness, denial & guilt on behalf of "rednecks", anger & resignation on behalf of "niggas", this opposition being the source of a perpetual social tension. Maybe this is an effective key to understand what is going on in America today. To apologize to Aborigin...
