It's ironic that a same-sex divorce case would open the door to legitimatizing same-sex marriage in New York State, but that appears to be what has happened.

There is a same-sex marriage bill stalled in the state legislature, which governor Spitzer said he would happily sign once the bill is passed. But in the meanwhile the courts have been making it very difficult to continue to discriminate against gay couples who wish to wed.

This is a fascinating story, no matter which side of the issue you might be on.
