	</BOD><P>Biodiversity - the richness and abundance of life - will continue to decline in Australia due to past mistakes, an independent committee of environment experts has predicted.</P><P>The committee also warned Australians had to set themselves up to adapt better to where they live in the face of a changing climate.</P><P>The five-yearly State of the Environment 2006 report is compiled for the government by a range of expert sources and includes 33 short papers on current and emerging environment and heritage issues.</P><P>"The condition of land, inland waters and coastal lakes could either remain the same or, in some places, continue to decline for some time," the report found.</P><P>"However, it is possible there will be improvements in some areas because of investments made in environmental assets."</P><P>The report found that adaptation to the environment was crucial to the survival of species in Australia.</P></blockquote></div><div style="margin: 0px 6px 6px 4px;"><table style="font-size: 11px;border-spacing: 0px;padding: 0px;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tr><td style="background:transparent;border-width:0px;padding:0px;">&nbsp;</td><td align="right" style="background:transparent;border-width:0px;padding:0px;width:107px" width="107"><a href="http://clipmarks.com/share/5D529973-ECE8-4522-8810-711677E944C9/blog/" title="blog or email this clip"><img src="http://content7.clipmarks.com/images/c2b-foot.png" border="0" alt="blog it" width="107" height="17" style="border-width:0px;padding:0px;margin:0px;" /></a></td></tr></table></div></div>
