Excellent review, exactly the sentiments felt by many Clippers here.

share them with the hospitable, sociable, engaging, and insightful Clipmarks community.
Now all the nice reviews are saying nice things about us, too!

Nice work guys.

I hope the spammers take a break before entering and destroying this great community.

That will be nasty will all the porn pics clipped in public marks.

no doubt mousie. this site is literally built by its users....so the fact that the great quality of people on the site are getting recognized is how it should be.

I think to keep this nice thing up you should close registration soon for public and start a invite only system (everyone can invite 10 people etc.), think of Gmail or Joost.

▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄

First that would make this service even more cool and second it would keep spammers out! And you could also track the social network (who invited who and so on).

Good review, except for the lame 'CONS' section. Requires a download and that's a CON somehow? And Safari, the program used by 2.5 people on the planet is also a requirement? Hopefully people reading PC mag will see that there really are no CONS in Clipmarks.

Did anyone noticed USAToday's new social aspect of their site? There is no down vote. Seems they got the right alogirithm without worrying about anything else.

By invitation ? That would be no good idea.
Do you really want some elite ? This system is, live always, unfair. Good authors or clippers might not be getting here. Some think they are something better because thea ARE here.

Keep this community free (as in freedom). Please.

The Clipmarks banter makes for
cheap entertainment, and if you spend any time at all on the site,
you'll likely find yourself exploring all manner of news, philosophy,
and technology, and eventually weighing in yourself.
Cheap entertainment? I think not! "Any time at all on the site..." This is why I keep my CM tag open so I get to read something new when I need a break from work.

Overall a great review though.

At present, there are a mere
five people on the Clipmarks team, but what they lack in numbers they
make up for in creativity and the ability to meld the complexities of
AJAX technology into something that is easy, fun to use, and, of
course, well worth shar...

I wonder if WiredRyo and mugofcoffee actually work for a living? If so - I wonder if they're so free that they choose not to get paid for their work? Both of those people obviously have no clue what it's like to create, develop and run something of Clipmarks quality and value, otherwise they wouldn't be asking what they're asking.

I wholeheartedly believe that Clipmarks more than deserves to be pay for service!!! Of course this is up to the CM guys to decide, but since nobody else is saying anything on the subject and a couple of people voiced their desire for getting something for nothing - I wanted to go on the record to say that I totally disagree and pledge to fully support CM if and when it becomes a pay-for service.

RecordSage: Free as in freedom, doesn't mean free as free beer.

While i think, clipmarks would be instantly dead, if it becomes a paid service, I did not said that the service should stay free of cost.

To answer your question: I am financially independent. So i invest much time and energy to help several services like clipmarks, yigg, webnews, wikipedia, blogs, wikis etc. FOR FREE (as free beer) !

You 'help' CM? How exactly does that work? I see you wasting bandwidth and their disk space, I wouldn't exactly call it help. But if you can look at Clipmarks, with everything it does, how well it does it and the usefulness factor and think that it would be 'dead' if it cost anything - I'm not sure anything or anyone can help you at this stage.

One good thing about going in that direction is elimination of people like you from the users here, since sounds that even though you're 'financially independent' - you wouldn't be supporting Clipmarks in a real world way, not some nonsensical BS you project that just because you put a comment here or there, somehow you 'help CM' - what a joke...

Hey RecordSage, did i offend you somehow ?
Did you read my previous comment ?

First let me respond to your last sentence. Everyone who are active at clipmarks, is helping clipmarks. At the moment i invest about 4-5 hours a day to find clips and put them into clipmarks, and comment things.
I know many things I am clipping mean crap to you, but may be interesting for other. Especially the German clippings, will help clipmarks to getting more popular in Germany.
But even if you only look through the clips and pop the one you like, you do a lot for the service. Because that IS the service.

but to get back to the very point of your harsh reaction... I did never said "for free" ind terms of no money. I said free in terms of freedom.

WiredRyo forgot what he said, yesterday, which was and I quote:

While i think, clipmarks would be instantly dead, if it becomes a paid service
I didn't make it up - you said it. Did you offend me? Of course not. Did you offend the CM guys? Only they can answer that question, but it wouldn't surprise me if you did with such a stupid (for a lack of better word) statement. Based on your comment I do think that you've never written a line of code in your life and have zero idea how much effort went and still going into Clipmarks.

Your comment about spending 4-5 hours a day clipping only indicates that you have no life... nothing more... You're being way too nice to yoursel...

Well maybe it's a miss understatement. Blame my bad English.
I did not meant that in any bad way. I just think that such a "social service" would not working with a pay model. Maybe for a specific group of persons it would, like pro-journalists or business related stuff.
That's all. No critic of any plans from the clipmarks team, if they exists.

I wrote plenty of code in my life, and still do. Nothing big, only just for fun. But i made up a dozens websites with all php, javascript, java, python etc. and i did some small tools and widgets.
So come on, don't take it personal.
And that's my comment you responded with "Both of those people obviously have no clue what it's like to create,

It's amazing how you knock an idea that someone like Google used. Somehow you put together a few sites, "nothing big", and all of a sudden you're an expert. The fact that Google used this very tactic, and considering what they've accomplished with their tactics, should certainly be something worthy of consideration. Are you getting millions of people daily using your sites, like Google does with their Gmail?

Anyway, it's not personal, it's just that CM guys are too modest and humble to respond to a ridiculous comment like've made... and I have too much appreciation for what they've created, designed, implemented and continue to improve constantly to stand by silently, that's all.

Nothing personal, just a MAJOR difference of opinion.
