ljsdesign says: "If the court determines that sheriffs have the authority " as part of their duties and responsibilities " to institute fees, there are millions of dollars in savings to the taxpayers as a result of inmates paying a very small portion of their fees and services," Assad said. Walker said the majority of inmates are indigent, so the money in their canteen accounts is sent to them by family members so they can buy basic items that are not supplied by the jails. To deduct money from those accounts is like placing an unlawful tax on prisoners' families, she said Good idea! We don't get anything for free why should those lawbreaker's get freebies! It will become a "debtor's prison" and that is one of the primary reasons we broke from England. It is also unconstitutional. WHY SHOULD THEY BE CARRIED ALONG BOTH IN PRISON AND OUT, WHEN THEY GET OUT THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AS WELL,TAKERS AND GIVERS IN THIS WORLD. Well, if they're going to start putting price tags on being in jail and they demand rent etc, then I think it would only be fair that the inmates receive payment for the work they otherwise do for free while they are locked up. (Like making license plates or digging ditches etc.) The loss of their freedom is literally the price they pay for their crimes, not their manual labour, so If one "service" demands payment, so should the other. |
