It seems that there is a wild inconsistency here that betrays the priorities of the Bush administration. Bush justifies the use of what ammounts to torture when it comes to "The War On Terror" because he argues even if we are making a mistake, it's better to be safe than sorry.

On the other hand, when it comes to "Global Warming" Bush and his ilk have stubornly resisted doing anything, even the meekest of protective measures, until a perpetually shifting level of scrutiny and evidence is met.

Their logic is this: we still don't have enough evidence, so it is better to be cautious (no matter how much evidence is presented). They argue that acting without evidence might open the door to limits on our liberties that would lead down a slippery slope to state-ism. It is more important to maintain the ironclad protections of the "Free Market" then to combat the hypothetical risks of global warming.

Why the disconnect?

Let's examine the arguments:

1.) There isn't enough evidence for global warming.

There isn't evidence of vast terrorist conspiracies against the US either. That's why the Bush administration insists on holding these people without trials or lawyers, and why most of the prisoners who have been given tribunals or any other sembalence of due process have been released. If we had evidence against these people, we could have tried them under existing laws.

Evidence is not a prerequisite for torture, but it is a prerequisite for nationally limiting carbon emissions.

2.) Taking measures to protect the environment without "definitive" evidence could open the door to eroding the "free market."

So the policy shakes down like this:

Innocent until proven guilty applies to corporations polluting the environment and military commanders overseeing torture facilities.

Guilty until proven innocent applies to Muslims, Arabs, Persians (and by unfortunate coincidence, Sikhs and South Asians) as well as Environmentalists and Human Rights Activists.

Perhaps there is a consistency in Bush policy after all. It goes like this: We'll do whatever we want, and for those of you who don't like it, water-boarding!

I really love the way you have connected these and got the point over so succinctly.

Actually, the ability to clip multiple sources together is one of my favorite things about Clipmarks. I call them "compound clips" and they really match the way my mind works. It's clever programing like this that puts clipmarks miles ahead of the other clipboard utilities out there.

I'm glad it does - in doing so your "compound clips" are opening my eyes (and i'm sure those of many other fellow clippers too)!
