egoldstein says: i don't think there is a blanket answer to this issue. I think that in some cases, the people/users will benefit and the companies that provide the services will be successful. Skype is a great example of that. On the other hand, if the technology is nothing more than a conduit for participation for participation's sake, then i think people will get board of it and the ocmpany will not be successful. Make sense? I'm dreaming of a huge database wher all social companies join hands to create a service lime MusicBrainz, wouldn't that be cool? Oh, my my spelling agin there it goes, sorry. Ycc, you communist I have a feeling that tagging, bookmarking, clipping and similar types will be putting libraries out of business or enhancing them. Let's hope the latter is true. A world wide web encyclopedia where "all things are connected." My god, I think this is too profound for a Saturday morning. lol Need more java straight up - no cream. Kinda like what google wants to accomplish. Make sense!. ACK Eric. Was just reading a Joi Ito quote in the new Wired mag... "Wikipedia works because it's dynamic and alive doesn't require the same structures as old-fashioned, slow media... I wish people would stop comparing a living organism to deadwood." I'm with bookchick on the vision for the future. The web is essentially a giant digital field that enables connections between pieces of information and the humans who create and consume them. These participatory tools and services are allowing a greater number of people to affect the form and function of the field. So while web 1.0 was built mostly by developers, now the masses are becoming the architects of the web. It's changing the way people access... funana, I'v clipped something for you: http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/EE047204-B35C-4E65-B765-E9020A9D376B/ Eric, some navigation buttons would be cool, no? About that dream, I've clipped a part fo it: http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/98EC6350-D414-4EB9-86E8-44B6A5CD02D5/ well, it's only a small part, I mixed up a lot of social services, Clipmarks included...Oh I forgot to tag it Clipmarks. What do you think, eric? ycc2106, i'd say you have quite an imagination and passion for the web!! i hope that your dream comes true and that clipmarks can play a roll in making it happen. my dream relates to adamc's statement that the Internet is "changing the way people access and share content, it's enabling human connections unlike ever before and I believe that bodes well for a wider distribution of power and influence." i want to see that happen. "power and influence"... are they very different? if u are influential... you have power... BUT if you have power you tend to be influential... 'the guy' (it's late, i got sloppy) guy, i suppose that you're kind of right. i think that power and influence typically go hand-in-hand, but i don't think they are the same thing. fair - the guy- |
