Huckabee could win. The whole thing. Keep this man from getting into the general election!

The real problem with Huck isn't his religion, it is the fact that he isn't a conservative. He is about as conservative as Rudy on the whole. Sure he is more socially conservative, but Rudy is more conservative when it comes to fiscal and security matters. The only problem I see with Huck's religion (I happen to be Baptist myself) is that he is hiding behind it in order to avoid his record as governor of Arkansas.

@kmcolo - do you really think so? On the other hand, what am I saying? If GWB can get elected (or sort-of elected) twice, anything is possible.

@n2sooners -

Interesting. Personally, I'm with Areanna H., in that I could give a toss what someone's religion (or lack thereof) is, provided it's a non-issue. But when someone comes out with it front and center, I get nervous. Most religions (as opposed to atheism) are exclusive, not inclusive. And the extreme fundamentalist branches of all religions take that exclusivity into the...

I don't know, seems to me that the atheists are just as exclusive and intolerant as the followers of any other religious belief if not more so.

If by "intolerant," you mean that atheists (or secular humanists) are for separation of church and state, I'd agree.

Atheists cannot be "as exclusive and intolerant as the followers of any other religious belief" since by definition, they do not hold *any* religious belief.

For the record, I'm not an atheist. But I do not "believe" in organized religion, nor am I a follower of any organized religion. My own intolerance of religion, if I have any, begins at the exact point where your (and by "your", I mean "any") religion interferes with my fundamental rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. A property line sort of thing.

If I have to come down on a side (which I don't like...

Yes, I really think so. He is an exceptionally good communicator and one who will have high appeal with "Reagan Democrats", the "blue collar" dem. I don't see anyone (well save one but I do have my favorite) on the dem side that could take him on. Unless, as was pointed out, he can be defeated early with his record as governor.

Tax the church! That's a great idea. Lower our taxes by eliminating the tax-free status of religious organizations. Except that then the government becomes dependent on that tax and then...

re: electability, good points. Like I said, if GWB, then anyone. Scary.

re: taxes, you're right, about dependence, but taxing the churches is hardly a "let's have an idiot tax and call it 'lotto'."

Oh, wait. Never mind...
